The barrier you will never see again
Sections missing, an hour before the pour.
In short: Vapour barrier recorded with sections missing on an Oran Park job.
What it does
A continuous membrane under the slab that stops ground moisture rising into the concrete and the floor above it.
What we recorded
Vapour barrier with sections missing, twice, on an Oran Park job four kilometres from Gledswood Hills.
Why continuity is the specification
It is not a partial barrier by design. A section missing is a hole in something specified as continuous, and moisture takes the shortest path.
How it presents years later
Damp in a floor covering, a smell in a closed room, or adhesive failing under a timber floor. By then the cause is under a hundred millimetres of concrete.
The window
It exists until the concrete truck arrives. That is the entire argument for a slab pre-pour inspection.
